The ALSO Instructor Course is designed to teach current ALSO Providers the skills and knowledge needed to effectively facilitate lectures and workstations at an ALSO Course. Successful completion of this course, as well as evaluation and recommendation by an advisory faculty member at an ALSO Course, is required to become an ALSO approved instructor.

Current ALSO status as of September 23, 2024 is required to attend this course.

Successful completion of required online course elements is mandatory
prior to attending the live portion of this course.

A limited number of spaces are available for individuals who complete the Instructor Course at this location to be immediately observed teaching in the ALSO Course the very next day. This will expedite advancement to Approved Instructor completion status. If interested, please contact Gaylynn Butts at gbutts@aafp.org.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

    • Plan to utilize demonstrated educational tools that can be used when giving feedback to ALSO® course participants.
    • Identify strategies to assist participants with questions and conflicts that can occur during the workstations.
    • Develop plans to demonstrate teaching competence in hands-on role-play utilizing maternal-fetal mannequins, including providing timely feedback, and adaptation of teaching methods to various situations.
    • Facilitate group discussion, and consider ways to implement faculty and learner feedback to enhance the educational experience.
    • Facilitate a simulated group testing scenario from setup through team observation, debriefing and evaluation.
    • Devise a plan to assist Instructor Candidates in achieving and maintaining full ALSO® Instructor status.
