Mikala Cessac, a fourth-year medical student at University of Missouri School of Medicine, serves on the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The AAFP represents 130,000 physicians and medical students nationwide. Cessac was elected to a one-year term by the National Congress of Family Medicine Residents and was confirmed by the governing body of the AAFP, the Congress of Delegates.
As the student member of the board of directors, Cessac represents the interests and opinions of the National Congress of Student Members to the AAFP board of directors and Congress of Delegates. In addition, she advocates on behalf of family physicians and patients nationwide to inspire positive change in the U.S. health care system.
Throughout medical school, Cessac has pursued leadership roles with the AAFP, including serving on Commission on Membership and Member Services. Additionally, she was Student Director for Missouri Academy of Family Physicians and served on the Advocacy and Education Commissions.
Cessac earned her bachelor’s degree in nutrition science at the University of Missouri.
