Aerial Petty, DO, is the resident physician members on the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The AAFP represents 130,000 physicians and medical students nationwide. Petty was elected to a one-year term by the National Congress of Family Medicine Residents and was confirmed by the governing body of the AAFP, the Congress of Delegates.
Petty recently started the Family Medicine Center for Professionalism and Value in Health Care-George Washington University Health Policy research fellowship, a one-year program in research, health policy, and faculty development.
She served as Resident Delegate to the Congress of Delegates and as a resident board member to the New York State AFP—serving on the NYSAFP Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission. She has advocated for policies that foster equitable environments for everyone to thrive in family medicine.
Petty has made an impact on family medicine with various awards and leadership roles with the National Medical Fellowships program. She was a Young Leadership Council member and a Health Equity Ambassador.
Petty graduated with a bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Florida and with a Master of Science in medical sciences from the University of South Florida. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency and was chief resident at and chief resident at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.
