The American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) have approved the following equivalency statement of AAFP Prescribed credit to AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Providers not accredited by the ACCME or by a recognized state medical society may wish to include the equivalency statement if they are not authorized to award AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM through another venue.
The AMA accepts the AAFP Prescribed credit as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1TM Credit for the AMA Physician's Recognition Award (PRA). When applying for the AMA PRA, AAFP Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed credit, not as AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. The AAFP accepts AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM as equivalent to AAFP Elective credit. When reporting to the AAFP, AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM earned must be reported as AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM, not as AAFP Prescribed credit.
The following equivalency statement can be included after the official AAFP credit statement:
AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed credit, not as AMA PRA Category 1TM.
Note: This equivalency agreement is not intended to bypass accreditation through the ACCME system, which is required to designate AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM.
