The American Academy of Family Physicians is committed to advancing health equity for Washington, DC residents, and it supports admitting the nation’s capital as the 51st state of the United States of America. Without a voice and a proper seat in the government, many residents are going unheard, thereby prolonging both a lack of public autonomy as well negative health impacts (reduced emergency funding, less medical supplies, etc.).
