The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recommends that driver education be required for all new drivers and be made available for drivers who experience events which may adversely affect their ability to drive safely. Driver education should be evidence-based and age-appropriate. In addition, the AAFP recommends that driver education curricula include information on rules of the road, emergency situations, and safety related vehicle maintenance and what actions to take in the event of vehicular breakdown.
