• Family Medicine Faculty

The American Academy of Family Physicians advocates that the qualification of all family medicine department chairs in medical schools, directors of family medicine residency programs, and family physicians who are on faculty or regularly teach family medicine residents or medical students should be based on a physician's documented training and/or experience, demonstrated abilities and current competence, which must include continued certification, such as certification by the American Board of Family Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.

The AAFP supports and advocates that other faculty should possess qualifications acceptable to current accreditation requirements for their specialties and professions if they are not family physicians and are working within medical school departments of family medicine or family medicine residency programs.
