The ALSO Instructor Course is designed to teach current ALSO Providers the skills and knowledge needed to effectively facilitate lectures and workstations at an ALSO Course. Successful completion of this course, as well as evaluation and recommendation by an advisory faculty member at an ALSO Course, is required to become an ALSO approved instructor.

Current ALSO status as of August 23, 2025, is required to attend this course.

A limited number of spaces are available for individuals who complete the Instructor Course at this location to be immediately observed teaching in the ALSO Course the very next day. This will expedite advancement to Approved Instructor completion status. If interested, email Gaylynn Butts, AAFP Program Strategist.

Successful completion of required online course elements is mandatory
prior to attending the live portion of this course.

Furthermore, upon successful completion of this course, learners will be designated as ALSO Instructor Candidates. Instructor Candidates are required to:

Be observed by an Advisory Faculty teaching in one ALSO Course within 1 year of their Instructor Course date.
Have the Advisory Faculty of that course recommend your status be changed from ALSO Instructor Candidate to ALSO Approved Instructor.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

Discuss educational tools that can be used when giving feedback to ALSO^®course participants.
Describe how to assist participants in dealing with questions and conflicts that can occur during the workstations.
Demonstrate teaching capabilities by providing hands-on role-play utilizing maternal-fetal mannequins along with timely feedback in order to adapt teaching methods to various situations.
Demonstrate the ability to facilitate group discussion, as well as consider ways to implement faculty and learner feedback to enhance the educational experience.

CME Credit Statement

The AAFP has reviewed ALSO Instructor Course and deemed it acceptable for up to 3.25 AAFP Prescribed credit. Term of Approval is from 8/23/2025 to 8/23/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

AMA/AAFP Equivalency - Providers may choose to include the following in addition to the AAFP credit statement:

AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits^™toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1.

CME activities approved for AAFP credit are recognized by the AOA as equivalent to AOA Category 2 credit.
