The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) unequivocally holds that all physicians should obtain privileges in accordance with their individual training, experience, and demonstrated current competence. On the basis of their training in Family Medicine, family physicians should have the education, training and experience to read electrocardiograms and should therefore be eligible for privileges to interpret electrocardiograms. Where local tests are utilized to establish current competency, the use of such tests should apply equally to all physicians regardless of specialty. (1982) (October 2023 COD)
