But often, they experience significant disparities in care and barriers to health care access that can lead to potential health complications. It’s critical to protect LGBTQ+ patients from discrimination that threatens their health and well-being.
This means access to quality health care, health care coverage for the care they need, and a strong, trusting relationship with their family physician for the best health outcomes. The goal is to provide patient-centered care to all patients.
You have the opportunity to to create a welcoming and inclusive clinical environment. Simple changes to practices, policies and staff training can dramatically improve access and the experiences of LGBTQ+ patients, resulting in the respectful care they deserve.
