"Celebrating Pride Month AAFP" against a wavy rainbow background

Pride 2025

Throughout the year, but especially during Pride Month, the AAFP celebrates the courage of the LGBTQ+ community and our members working to provide inclusive care for LGBTQ+ patients

LGBTQ+ patients should always be treated with dignity when seeking and receiving health care. But often, they experience significant disparities in care and barriers to health care access that can lead to potential health complications. It’s critical to protect LGBTQ+ patients from discrimination that threatens their health and well-being.

This means access to quality health care, health care coverage for the care they need, and a strong, trusting relationship with their family physician for the best health outcomes. The goal is to provide patient-centered care to all patients.

You have the opportunity to to create a welcoming and inclusive clinical environment. Simple changes to practices, policies and staff training can dramatically improve access and the experiences of LGBTQ+ patients, resulting in the respectful care they deserve.
