Description
The Maternal-Child Health fellowship program is designed to train leaders in Family Medicine-Obstetrics who are interested in practicing in an underserved area or in an academic setting. The program offers advanced clinical training in maternity and newborn care in a busy urban hospital along with 1-2 months of rural L+D exposure. Surgical fellows will receive training in c/section delivery, OB ultrasound, newborn resuscitation and stabilization, vacuum assisted vaginal delivery and the care of complicated obstetric patients. Advanced Obstetric, or non-surgical, fellows focus more on vaginal delivery skills and management of low and moderate risk patients on L+D, along with the same exposure to ultrasound and newborn care as the surgical fellows. Fellows spend 1-2 sessions per week in the Family Medicine clinic and can choose from a wide array of maternity and newborn care elective experiences. The fellowship is offered in collaboration with the Departments of Obstetrics and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY and Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY.
