Description
The Saint Louis University Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program provides the training needed to diagnose and manage medical illnesses and injuries related to sports and exercise. Fellows gain expertise in injury prevention, pre-participation evaluation, return to play criteria, assessment and management of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries, and rehabilitation. Fellows function as a team physician and serve both individual patients and the community through the promotion of physical fitness and wellness. The metropolitan Saint Louis area provides superb opportunities for sporting event coverage. Fellows serve as assistant team physicians for Saint Louis University, McKendree University, and Lindenwood University, and function as the primary physician for a local high schools. Throughout the year, the sports medicine fellows are integral in medical coverage and planning of mass participation events, including the Lewis and Clark Marathon; Illinois Special Olympics; the Saint Louis Gymnastics Classic; and have the opportunity to serve as site physicians at the NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Final Four; NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Championships; NCAA Division 1 Ice Hockey Final Four; and the Missouri Valley Basketball Tournament when these events are held in St. Louis.
