Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program (CFMRP) offers a unique blend of advanced inpatient training and real-world outpatient training. Graduates of the program leave with skills they need to excel in a wide variety of practice settings, including full-scope family medicine with OB, hospital medicine, sports medicine, hospice, and more. Established in 1996, CFMRP has a strong tradition of supporting our local community as well as leadership on local, regional, and national levels. Our model for outpatient family medicine training allows residents to become “junior partners” in a real-world private practice model. Working alongside 34 family medicine faculty, residents become personal physicians for their own panel of continuity patients at one of the four Cabarrus Family Medicines offices in Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis, and Mt. Pleasant. Residents have access in-office radiology, laboratory, and virtual psychiatry consultation services. Inpatient training occurs at Atrium Health Cabarrus, a nationally-recognized 457-bed medical center which serves as a referral center for a five-county region and part of one of the nation’s leading healthcare organizations, Atrium Health. Residents reap the benefits of being the only training program based in this state-of-the-art teaching hospital, receiving one-on-one instruction from world-class specialists and family medicine hospitalist faculty. Our program allows residents to tailor their training towards an Area of Concentration in their area of interest, such as women’s health or travel medicine. We also offer obstetrics and sports medicine tracks. All residents, however, will benefit from learning from sports medicine faculty from our ACGME-accredited sports medicine fellowship. Didactic teaching occurs in a protected block of time on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30-5:00p with an emphasis on dynamic teaching styles and evidence-based medicine. Conveniently located just outside of Charlotte (and centrally located between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Carolina coast), residents can enjoy all that makes North Carolina one of the fastest growing states in the US. Our residents take full advantage of their time away from work, enjoying the diverse array of outdoor activities as well as broad cultural and dining experiences, both locally and in nearby Charlotte.
