We are a community-based training program in a town with strong family medicine leadership. Our philosophy is to broadly train residents to have competence, confidence, and comfort to practice in any setting; be that suburban, rural, urban, or international. Students seeking this type of training will find a unique and exceptional educational experience at Via Christi Family Medicine. We offer a full-spectrum family medicine obstetric experience (including comprehensive C-section training). We place a strong emphasis on procedural training, including upper and lower GI endoscopy. We have a highly skilled and broadly trained faculty resulting in an ideal faculty-resident ratio of 1:3. Our faculty members have few obligations other than mentoring, precepting, and oversight, so the supervision and advice that you need is always available. We run a high volume inpatient medicine service that includes critical care management in an open ICU. Our pediatrics experience (both inpatient with PICU and outpatient) is led by full-time Pediatricians devoted to training Family Medicine residents. We offer Sports Medicine training and experience with a broad array of exposure including high schools, colleges, universities, professional teams, and a Sports Medicine Fellowship. We also offer an International Family Medicine Fellowship program to train our graduates to handle medical needs in impoverished and underserved developing world settings. Our residents are treated as competent physicians from day one -- and they are given the freedom and responsibility to care for their patients at their comfort level from admission to discharge. We will prepare you for the type of practice that you desire in Family Medicine. The Wichita metro area provides urban and suburban training opportunities with a population of over 600,000 plus rural opportunities for rotations and moonlighting are available in neighboring communities as well as throughout western Kansas.
