Program Description

Our residency is a unique program that has been shaped by participation in both locally- and nationally-sponsored innovation during the 18 years of our existence. We strive to facilitate the professional development of graduates deeply grounded in family medicine with strong core knowledge and skills in family systems, population health, chronic disease management, office procedures, behavioral and integrative medicine. Residents develop leadership skills including collaboration, information management, critical thinking, life-long learning, and professional balance. Our dually-accredited residency is built around the relationship-centered clinical method, which recognizes the centrality of family, community, and continuity of care to the healing practice of the family physician. Recognizing that today’s family physician must be prepared for continuous change on many levels throughout their future practice, the program creates opportunities for residents to guide their own curriculum, allowing for flexibility to address personal areas of interest in a manner that matches their individual learning style. Residents’ required and selected learning experiences are guided by an integrated set of curricular portfolios that center around themes such as acute care, chronic care, community health and research, administration and leadership, and wellness. In accordance with adult learning principles, assessment of resident progress is collaborative, resident-centered, and competency-based.
