Program Description

The Madison Family Medicine Residency Program provides full-spectrum family medicine training that combines the best aspects of an academic medical center, community hospitals, ambulatory training sites, and rural rotations. Our core value is a commitment to the personal and professional growth of each resident in our program, and our energetic and committed faculty, residents, and staff work together to create a rich and supportive learning environment. Our dynamic curriculum offers exceptional experience in OB and other inpatient medicine, as well as unique outpatient and elective opportunities. In addition, our formalized “Pathways” afford residents the opportunity to gain experience, knowledge, and skills in an area of interest (maternity care, geriatrics, sports medicine, international & community health, integrative medicine, developmental disabilities, or women’s health), while still gaining the broad knowledge and skills needed to provide exceptional, full-spectrum care. Both of our major teaching hospitals (St. Mary’s Hospital and The University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics) and our four family medicine centers offer residents a strong continuity practice with large and diverse patient populations. A lively and diverse city, Madison consistently ranks as one of the best places in the country in which to live, work, and play.
