Program Description

The BCM Family Medicine Residency Program is an ACGME accredited 36-month residency program currently accepting applications for six future interns for entrance to our Baylor Family Medicine-Northwest Community Health Center Track. The BCM Family Medicine Residency Program was formed in the early 1970s. The residency program has had a Family Medicine Center (FMC) based out of the Harris Health System Northwest Community Health Center since July 1997. The Harris Health System focuses on caring for underserved populations in Harris County, Texas. The varied and extensive clinical experiences residents receive in this program area are applicable to both urban underserved and rural practices. The program has matured to be at the forefront of resident education, and residents are prepared to be personal physicians for practice in the 21st century. Residents of this program rotate at Texas Medical Center hospitals: • Ben Taub General Hospital • Texas Children's Hospital • Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center • St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital The residency program has, at its core, a group of dedicated clinical and academic faculty whose breadth of experiences with the underserved in this country and other parts of the world are extensive. With guidance from department faculty, nationally known in advancing the Patient Centered Medial Home (PCMH) Model, residents are learning firsthand how to incorporate this advanced approach to health care in an underserved setting. The Northwest Clinic is leading the way for the Harris Health System Community Health Clinics and has achieved Level 3 NCQA status and PCMH certification.
