The YRMC Family & Community Medicine Residency is the charter post graduate medical education program in our dynamic regional medical center that serves the 200,000 citizens of Yuma County. As the single residency of Yuma Regional Medical Center, Family Medicine residents are truly on the front line of care. Recognized as the sunniest place in the country, Yuma is unique due to its unusual geographic location which combines the energy and innovation of a metropolitan community with the friendly, caring atmosphere of a small town. Yuma County covers an expansive area and the many medically underserved people and the substantial migration of winter visitors provide a wide range of healthcare challenges and disease states from which our residents gain in-depth, hands on experience. The residency program aims to prepare physicians to provide family-centered, community-integrated care. Our curriculum emphasizes conscientious, evidence based healthcare and critical awareness of the role of the family physician in the continuum of care for families in our community and region. The three-year curriculum includes four elective months, a strong focus on practice management and medical ethics, as well as a patient-centered, community-oriented element in all rotations. In addition, we provide the opportunity for unique clinical rotations on both sides of the international border with Mexico. In curricular offerings we underscore social determinants of health concepts as well as the crucial interface of health promotion and disease prevention. Applications to our program are considered through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Interviews are conducted during the months of October, November, and December annually. We accept eight PGY1 positions each year. To learn more about our program, I encourage you to explore our website (http://www.yumaregional.org/family-community-medicine-residency-program), email us, or contact our program at (928) 336-1290. Thank you for your interest. We look forward to meeting you in the future. Kristina Diaz, MD, FAAFP Program Director, Chief Academic Officer, and DIO
