Community Health Care is a community-oriented full-spectrum Family Medicine Residency run by an organization dedicated to primary care, and where most of our Family Physicians care for their patients in the hospital and deliver babies, as well as practice in the office. What you learn at Community Health Care, you can practice at Community Health Care the rest of your career, or in other underserved areas or in rural communities where full spectrum Family Physicians are needed. While we are strongly supported by our local hospitals, and work with a supportive group of specialists, we are not run by a hospital (with its many other concerns). CHC is an organization that has focused on primary care for over 25 years, and now applies that to primary care education. Our new, state-of-the-art building is located in the community it serves near downtown Tacoma Washington, part of the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Inpatient rotations are at St. Joseph’s Medical Center and Tacoma General Hospital/Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital where CHC physicians care for adults, children and deliver babies. We have affiliations with both hospital outpatient networks and private physicians in the community whom we draw on for additional didactics and block rotations, including surgery, dermatology, sports medicine, geriatrics and cardiology. There is an overwhelming need for primary care providers who are equipped to care for a diverse population. Physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, as well as dentists and pharmacists, are all sought after to work in underserved primary care settings. Community Health Care has responded to this demand by developing the nation’s first inter-disciplinary residency program with a focus on providing quality health care accessible to everyone. This is a unique approach to primary care residencies with multi-disciplinary providers teaching, learning, and working alongside each other. We are prepared to educate exceptional and compassionate physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, and pharmacists.
