Represent family medicine and the AAFP at the American Medical Association’s two annual business meetings. The AAFP supports two medical student members to serve as delegate and alternate delegate to the AMA Medical Student Section. Through the year-long term these two members will share delegate and alternate roles.
The AMA House of Delegates (HOD) annually allocates delegate positions to state and specialty societies based on the number of their members that are also AMA members. The allocation is announced on or before February 1 of each year, and the delegate count is adjusted accordingly. Depending on the delegation size, there will be an opportunity for one MSS representative to also serve as a HOD delegate for the Annual and Interim meetings that year. This additional responsibility will require two or three extra days of service at the AMA HOD meeting. Travel expenses, including per-diem payment, will be provided by the AAFP. If an increase occurs, additional information will be provided by AAFP Medical Education staff.
Candidates for this position are appointed by the AAFP Board of Directors at the recommendation of the AAFP Resident and Student Leadership Screening Committee.
