    The following family medicine residents were selected for their exemplary patient care, their interpersonal relationships with patients, physicians and faculty, and their demonstrated leadership and community involvement. These 12 men and women are truly health care leaders.

    Andrew Antes, M.D., M.S.

    Dr. Andrew Antes is proud to be selected as chief resident at his residency program by his peers and faculty. The opportunity has allowed him to take a more active role in problem-solving for his community, become involved in hospital leadership and provide a voice to the ideas and concerns of residents. Other notable leadership positions include serving as the resident director of the California Academy of Family Physicians Sacramento Chapter, student leader of the Tulane Learning Community and board member of Doctors Outreach. In addition to an interest in teaching, his professional interests include practicing preventive medicine and training in recognizing and addressing the needs of victims of human trafficking. Some of his interests outside of medicine include learning Japanese, cooking, writing mystery and horror short stories and running a Dungeons and Dragons game with his friends. Following residency, Dr. Antes plans to return to practice at an outpatient clinic in San Francisco, which he managed prior to medical school, teach other medical learners and continue his work on poster presentations and publications to further his knowledge about victims of human trafficking.

    Dr. Tâm Nha Âu’s most significant professional accomplishments to date include being honored with the AAFP Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education and receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award for her work with Vietnamese Community Health at UCLA, a student organization that serves her hometown of Little Saigon and Orange County, California. She also takes pride in being part of the team that institutionalized the First-Gen @ UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine group, supporting individuals who are the first in their families to pursue higher education and medicine. Her areas of professional interest include health policy, community advocacy, reproductive health and building sustainable community partnerships. In her personal life, she enjoys traveling, reading the latest Asian-American literature, Zumba, supporting mom-and-pop restaurants and reliving childhood joys with her baby, niece and nephew. Following residency, Dr. Âu plans to integrate herself into community practice with an academic affiliation that serves a diverse population, including immigrants and refugees. She would also like to continue teaching to cultivate the next generation of primary care physicians and work to enact systemic policy changes to improve health equity and the care of underserved patients.

    One of Dr. Dill’s most important professional accomplishments is creating Uniting Hearts & Hands, which utilizes the American Heart Association’s guidelines to provide free cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes to expecting mothers, their families and youth programs to help reduce childhood mortality. She is also proud to have completed the requirements for deliveries during her residency, including primary surgeon C-sections. In addition to a professional interest in labor and C-section deliveries, she is interested in infant and childcare and encouraging health screenings and vaccinations. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their children, gardening, learning to ballroom dance and expanding her nonprofit organization. Following residency, Dr. Dill accepted a position in the underserved rural community of Othello, Washington, at the Columbia Basin Health Association, where she will practice broad-spectrum obstetrics.

    Among Dr. Dougherty’s most important professional accomplishment to date includes spending a month in Washington, DC, as a scholar for the Center for Professionalism and Value in Health Care and The Robert Graham Center. She learned the incredible impact that family physicians can have on health policy and was inspired to continue her primary care advocacy and policy journey. She has served in leadership roles with the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians and the AAFP and counts health policy and rural health as her professional interests. In her free time, Dr. Dougherty enjoys spending time with loved ones, traveling, being outdoors and proudly supporting the University of Missouri through volunteerism and attending sporting events. After completing residency, she plans to continue her education journey by pursuing a master’s degree while practicing outpatient family medicine. In the future, she wants to practice and teach part-time while dedicating her time and efforts to health policy and advocating for further investments in primary care and improving the health of rural Americans.

    Dr. Horowitz’s most significant professional accomplishments to date include receiving the AAFP Global Health Summit Scholarship and being recognized as an Outstanding Teaching Assistant in the 2023 Principles and Practices of Clinical Research Program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She enjoys working on international medical missions and global health activities and is interested in medical education and research. She wants to work with Hispanic-Latino and African-American communities to instill a more equitable health care system. In her free time, Dr. Horowitz enjoys traveling, Latin dancing, reading and cooking. She plans to pursue a palliative care fellowship with a blend of outpatient/inpatient care for underserved populations and academic research. She also wants to be a director for a family medicine residency program.

    Being part of an interdisciplinary, learner-led and community-engaged public health campaign to address underlying mistrust and systemic racism in the Rio Grande Valley during the COVID-10 pandemic is Dr. Huff’s most important professional accomplishment to date. The Association of American Medical Colleges and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded program focused on Spanish-speaking individuals and people who are deaf and hard of hearing. Her favorite personal activities include exploring new cultures, distance running, lifting weights, doing CrossFit and dressing up for Halloween. After completing residency, Dr. Huff plans to work as a full-scope primary care physician in a rural, medically underserved area and work with medical students and residents as faculty at an academic institution. She would also like to continue efforts to improve access to health care for underserved populations and participate in medical missions.

    Dr. Hunt’s most important professional accomplishment to date was being chosen as chief resident. Her professional interests include hospital medicine, gynecological procedures and advocacy to overcome racism in medicine and beyond. She is interested in caring for patients throughout their lifespan and is committed to addressing adverse childhood experiences and mental health early in her patients’ lives. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, working out, lifting weights and cooking. After completing residency, Dr. Hunt wants to work for a residency program as a hospital medicine attending and faculty member teaching medical students and residents.

    Serving as co-chief resident, mentoring medical students and fellow residents and being inducted as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society are among Dr. Jamgochian’s most important professional accomplishments to date. Professionally, she is drawn to reproductive health, lifestyle medicine and academic medicine. In her free time, she enjoys listening to medical and non-medical podcasts, learning Spanish, swimming in the ocean at the Jersey Shore and cooking healthy meals that she shares with family and friends. After completing residency, Dr. Jamgochian would like to pursue a reproductive health care and advocacy fellowship and offer full-spectrum sexual and reproductive care for her patients. She would also like to continue practicing care for patients in underserved communities and shape the next generation of family physicians through teaching and mentoring at a family medicine residency program.

    Among Dr. Kaur’s most important professional accomplishments to date include being chosen as co-chief resident, representing her residency program at the graduate medical education meeting at the Michigan state capitol, leading Street Medicine (which offers medical care to homeless populations) and receiving the AAFP Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education. Her professional interests include acute and chronic care management, lifestyle medicine and caring for underserved populations. In her free time, Dr. Kaur enjoys quality time with family and friends, hiking, Top Golf outings, gardening and cherishing time with her dogs. After residency, she plans to pursue a career as a hospitalist or in academic family medicine, mentoring medical students and residents. She wants to focus her practice efforts on preventive medicine with patients needing acute care and/or those with chronic medical conditions.

    Being chosen as chief resident of her residency program is Dr. King’s most important professional accomplishment to date. Professionally, she is interested in enhancing her point-of-care ultrasound skills, advocating for physician and resident wellness and practicing full-spectrum family medicine in rural, underserved areas. In her free time, Dr. King enjoys volunteering, woodworking, decorative pie and cake baking and expressing her creativity through arts and crafts projects. After completing residency, she wants to practice full-spectrum family medicine with her husband and become active in the community where she will practice.

    Among Dr. Klinker’s most important professional accomplishments to date include receiving the AAFP Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education and caring for patients in underserved regions in Honduras as part of a medical mission. His professional interests include providing comprehensive care for small and rural communities, including pediatric and adolescent patients, as well as preventive and procedural care. Some of his pursuits in those areas include a quality improvement project in outpatient pediatric hypertension and growing his osteopathic manipulation skills. In his free time, he enjoys trivia, watching baseball, volunteering, theater and honing his musical talents, including performing with The Ohio State University alumni marching band. Following residency, Dr. Klinker will practice outpatient family medicine at OhioHealth Van Wert in the community where he grew up. In the practice, he will care for newborn to advanced elderly patients and perform procedures in the office. He will also plans to be a local team physician back in Van Wert County, Ohio, and wants to work with residents from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences at an area health education center rural rotation site.

    Reducing mother-to-child HIV transmission from 28% to 2% in Gombe State, Nigeria, has been Dr. Noh’s most important professional accomplishment to date. He is also proud to have been chosen as co-chief resident by the faculty and peers in his residency program. His primary professional pursuits include training and mentoring medical students and residents, pursuing certification in weight loss medicine and getting more involved in organized medicine. When he’s not practicing medicine, Dr. Noh spends his free time traveling, hanging out with family and friends and playing and watching soccer, tennis, table tennis and pickleball. After completing residency, he plans to practice full-scope family medicine and work as a hospitalist, seeing patients a few days in the clinic. He also wants to become a faculty member and preceptor, teaching and mentoring medical students and residents while implementing research-based programs to improve health care education. One day, he wants to build his own family medicine practice with his wife, who is also a family physician.
