  • Student Chair of National Conference

    The application cycle for this position is open. This position is elected at the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students, which candidates should plan to attend. Applications are due July 25, 2024, but will also be accepted until the election taking place at the AAFP National Conference August 1-3, 2024.

    Responsibilities

    Term: August 2, 2024 – August 31, 2025

    • Serve as a member of the AAFP Commission on Education (COE), the COE Subcommittee on Resident and Student Issues, and the COE Subcommittee on National Conference Planning
    • Coordinates and makes decisions regarding student activities throughout the year
    • Provides input into planning programming and special activities for the upcoming National Conference
    • Presides at the business sessions of the National Congress of Student Members

     

    Application Summary

    Candidates for this position are elected at the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students. Candidates should plan to attend the entirety of the conference. Candidates are required to be nominated at the conference, deliver a 2 - 3 minute speech, participate in a candidate Q&A, and, if elected, participate in a new officer orientation Saturday afternoon of the conference.

    Required elements of the application include:

    • Participation Form signed by medical school dean’s office
    • Support form completed by your AAFP chapter (state or constituent chapter)

    Eligibility Criteria

    Must have attended a past National Conference and be in good academic standing. At least one year of national-level experience in AAFP leadership, including:

    • Student Delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates
    • FMIG Network National Coordinator
    • FMIG Network Regional Coordinator
    • AAFP commission member
    • Student member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Board of Directors
    • Student member of the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees
    • AAFP student representative to the American Medical Association Medical Student Section (AMA-MSS)
    • Student Liaison to the Student National Medical Association or Latino Medical Student Association

    Time commitment away from medical school: Approximately 10 days (includes weekends) for travel and attendance at meetings.

    Funding: Travel covered according to AAFP Travel Policy. A per diem covers expenses to travel to and attend the meeting, including lodging and food.
