May 15, 2023, News Staff — Leadership opportunities abound at the AAFP, and several family physicians newly stepped into some of these roles at the 2023 National Conference of Constituency Leaders, which met May 9-11 in Kansas City, Mo.
Those elected by chapter delegates at the conference this year include
AAFP Board of Directors new physician member candidate: Matthew Adkins, D.O., of Columbus, Ohio. (Note: This candidate is to be approved by the 2023 Congress of Delegates in Chicago.)
New Physician alternate delegates to the AAFP Congress of Delegates: Anna Askari, M.D., M.S., of Palm Desert, Calif.; and Andrew Lutzkanin, M.D., of Elizabethtown, Penn.
Member constituency alternate delegates to the AAFP Congress of Delegates: Sterling Brodniak, D.O., M.B.A., of Annondale, Va.; Cynthia Chen-Joea, D.O., of Lakewood, Calif.; Katharina de Klerk, D.O., of Pawtucket, R.I.; Manju Mahajan, M.D., of Westford, Mass.; Stephanie Purnell, M.D., M.P.H., of Baltimore, Md.; and Eileen Tatum, M.D., of Imperial, Calif.
The member constituency alternate delegates represent the following constituency groups: women; minorities; international medical graduates; and LGBTQ+ physicians or physicians who support LGBTQ issues.
2024 NCCL Convener: Alex McDonald, M.D., C.A.Q.S.M., of Claremont, Calif.
2024 member constituency co-conveners: Mahajan and Evangeline Obi, M.D., of Fort Washington, Md. (IMG constituency); Brodniak and de Klerk (LGBTQ+ constituency); Purnell and Jessica Garcia, D.O., of Houston, Texas (minority constituency); Askari and Lutzkanin (new physician constituency); and Chen-Joea and Tatum (women’s constituency).
AAFP delegate to the AMA Young Physicians Section: Loren Colson, D.O., of Boise, Idaho.
