July 31, 2024, News Staff — Two new Member Interest Groups — one focused on obesity medicine, the other on wilderness medicine — were recently approved by the Board of Directors to help members network and exchange knowledge with their peers.
The Wilderness Medicine MIG aims to increase interest among members, connect and advocate for those who are already practicing wilderness medicine, and facilitate the sharing of evidence-based practices and novel approaches. The chair is A.J. Weinhold M.D., FAAFP, and the vice chair is Carver M. Haines, M.D.
The Obesity Medicine MIG was formed to advocate for and disseminate information about managing and improving chronic health conditions related to obesity by helping members share techniques that result in weight loss and/or prevent weight gain. The chair is Carl G. Knopke, M.D., FAAFP, and the vice chair is Kimberly A. Bibb, M.D.
Both of the new MIGs are overseen by the Commission on Health of the Public and Science.
