July 11, 2018, 10:48 am News Staff – Family physicians who participated in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) in 2017 now have the opportunity to review MIPS performance feedback as well as their final MIPS scores calculated by CMS.
Payment adjustments based on this data -- be they positive, negative or neutral -- will be applied to physicians' Medicare payment for covered services in 2019.
According to a July 6 post in FPM's "Getting Paid" blog, feedback reports provide physicians and practices with scoring and performance details for each of the MIPS scoring categories. Physicians can even see how often each of their attributed Medicare beneficiaries visited an emergency room.
CMS says physicians who disagree with their 2019 MIPS payment adjustment have until Sept. 30 to request a targeted review; circumstances warranting such a request include
Physicians who have a valid circumstance other than one of those listed above can also submit a request for a targeted review. Forms are available through CMS' Quality Payment Program (QPP) portal.
Physicians must use their Enterprise Identity Data Management (EIDM) account to gain access to the portal. Those who do not have an EIDM account can review the EIDM User Guide to get started.
Additional information on requesting a targeted review is available from a QPP Fact Sheet and the 2019 MIPS payment adjustment user guide.
