• Apply Now for Women’s Wellness Through Equity and Leadership Project

    Sept. 26, 2023, News Staff — The Women’s Wellness Through Equity and Leadership Project, a collaboration of 10 of the nation’s leading medical organizations, is recruiting a diverse group of early- to mid-career physicians for the next WEL project cohort.

    Each partner organization — including the AAFP — will select three scholars for the program, and active AAFP members are encouraged to apply through Oct. 8.

    Application Criteria

    In addition to being an active member, WEL scholars selected by the AAFP must be interested in training and professional growth in the areas of leadership, wellness and equity, and in establishing connections with physicians throughout the medical community who share similar interests.

    Scholars must also commit to an 18-month curriculum, which begins with an in-person kickoff meeting at the American Academy of Pediatrics headquarters in Itasca, Ill., next February. Other events include

    • three additional two-day meetings, which may be held virtually or in-person;
    • monthly webinars beginning in March 2024; and
    • a variety of mentoring, networking and evaluation activities.

    How to Apply

    AAFP members can apply online through Oct. 8. The Academy will review applications and then notify all applicants of their status by Oct. 12.

    About the WEL Project

    The WEL Project is supported through a grant from The Physicians Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to empower all physicians to provide high-quality care and take a leadership role in shaping the future of health care.”

    The WEL Project is intended to develop a new wave of women physician leaders by enhancing individual physician skills and improving organizational structures, with the long-term objective of creating a healthier, more equitable work experience.

    In addition to the AAFP and AAP, the WEL project’s partner organizations include the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American College of Physicians, the American Hospital Association, the AMA, the American Medical Women’s Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the National Hispanic Medical Association and the National Medical Association.
