An item in “Clinical Briefs” (March 1997, page 1470) contained an inaccurate statement regarding the phenylketonuria (PKU) diet. The first paragraph of the item should read as follows:
The Children's PKU Network (CPN) has initiated a search for women in their child-bearing years who were diagnosed and treated for phenylketonuria (PKU) when they were children. According to the CPN, these women may be unaware of the potential risk to their unborn children if they do not stay on a special diet for PKU, especially prior to and during their pregnancies.
