Am Fam Physician. 1998;58(6):1256

If you're like me, you may be feeling a bit of jet lag after your trip home from San Francisco. Perhaps you were one of the more than 20,000 attendees at the AAFP's recent Annual Scientific Assembly who gathered to participate in CME events, rekindle friendships, touch base with the organization, or escape for a moment to the waterfront. And, perhaps, like hundreds of others, you found time to visit the AFP booth. If you managed to stop by, then you might have had a chance to talk with AFP's editor, Jay Siwek, M.D., one of our other medical editors, AFP's publisher or editorial director, a member of the marketing or sales staff, one of the administrative staff, the senior editor or me, the managing editor.

Why do so many people set aside time from their already overbooked schedules just to abuse their feet on the exhibit hall floor? For AFP staff, it's a golden opportunity to meet readers personally and find out firsthand if we're meeting their needs and expectations. Traditionally, we have taken this time to sample readers' opinions through a brief survey administered at the booth. We're delighted that so many readers stop to fill out the survey, and we'd like to thank those who participated this year.

Readers who stop by the booth have a chance to ask questions, give us direct feedback, pass along new ideas and share their experiences. We frequently answer queries about how to submit an article (see “Instructions to Authors,” page 1489); how to order a subscription or purchase AFP on CD-ROM (call AAFP's order department at 800-944-0000); how to find AFP's home page (complete text of the journal is available online at https://www.aafp.org/afp/), and how to earn CME credit online (go to https://www.aafp.org/afp/afpquiz.html).

Beyond the booth at Assembly, perhaps you had the chance to attend a CME event presented by one of our medical editors or one of our many contributors. Ever popular is the workshop for new authors led by Jay Siwek, M.D., and Barry Weiss, M.D., editor of Family Medicine.

If you weren't able to attend Assembly this year, maybe we'll see you next year. Of course, you don't have to visit the booth to be heard—just contact me any time (8880 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114; telephone: 816-333-9700, ext. 3108; fax: 816-333-0303; e-mail: jwright@aafp.org).
