Am Fam Physician. 2006;73(6):974
The article “Transient Ischemic Attacks: Part I. Diagnosis and Evaluation” (April 1, 2004, page 1665) contained an error in the second paragraph in the left column of page 1670. The first sentence of this paragraph incorrectly listed a patent foramen ovale as an etiology for paroxysmal emboli rather than paradoxical emboli. The sentence should have read as follows: “Transesophageal echocardiography is superior to transthoracic echocardiography for evaluating possible dysfunction of the left atrium (including thrombus) or a patent foramen ovale (an etiology for paradoxical emboli), atrial septal defects (including aneurysm), and aortic plaque.” The online version of this article has been corrected.
