To the Editor::
I am sure that FPM respects copyright laws and the protection of intellectual property. The advice in “Waiting Room Entertainment” [Ask FPM, March 2004, page 86] to play private videos and compact discs in a waiting room would violate rules prohibiting public performances of copyrighted material, according to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. You would need a license from the copyright holders expressly giving permission to use these materials in this way.
Editor's response: Dr. Wooton is correct. For more information about copyright laws, you can refer to Title 17 of the United States Code, available online at http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html.
