Starting in April, FPM will have more to offer AAFP members and subscribers.
Fam Pract Manag. 2008;15(2):7
The American Academy of Family Physicians is a mission-driven organization, and Family Practice Management plays an important role in that mission, particularly in the AAFP's efforts to help its members enhance their practices and gain the compensation they deserve. FPM's primary focus, after all, is practice enhancement in every sense of the term. The size of its circulation and the practicality of its content make it one of the Academy's most important practice enhancement resources.
For business reasons, the Academy sends FPM to some physicians outside the AAFP and serves a number of paid subscribers, but the core of our audience and the main reason for FPM's existence is the AAFP membership. In furtherance of its “members get more” approach, the AAFP will be making a couple of changes in FPM, beginning with the April issue:
First, the Academy will support the publication of a special bonus section that will appear in the issues that AAFP members (and paid subscribers) receive. This section will include articles intended to help readers build thriving practices and offer state-of-the-art care.
Second, FPM will offer CME credit exclusively to AAFP members and subscribers. The CME Quiz department and quiz response card will be moving to the bonus section mentioned above.
How these changes affect you will depend on your situation. If you are an Academy member or a paid subscriber – and the large majority of our readers are – you'll gain extra content in every issue and the continued AAFP benefit of free CME credit. If you happen to fall outside this group, you'll continue getting the same FPM articles, departments and tools that you've always gotten, and you can still take advantage of the CME credit (and the bonus content) by either subscribing to FPM or becoming a member of the AAFP.1
You will also see some changes in the online version of FPM beginning in April – but I'll have to save that for next month.
