Why did you choose family medicine?

Because I couldn’t see not using everything I learned in medical school.

What makes your practice distinctive?

I focus on wellness.

What have you done to keep your work interesting?

I developed a program called HealthTrends that keeps my patients healthy and out of the hospital. (See https://www.aafp.org/fpm/990400fm/33.html.)

What is the best practice management decision you have made?

To learn everything about my business so I can work for my office manager when she goes on vacation or maternity leave.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

Ride my road bike, mountain bike or dirt bike, or play racquetball. I just finished building a garden.

What would your patients or colleagues be surprised to learn about you?

My “Practice Diary” column, which I wrote for FPM for nearly seven years, was recently translated into Chinese.
