Resident Delegate to the American Medical Association - Resident Fellow Section (AMA-RFS)

Position Overview

Applications for this position are reviewed by the AAFP Resident and Student Leadership Screening Committee and appointed by the AAFP Board of Directors.

Represent family medicine and the AAFP at the American Medical Association’s two annual business meetings. The AAFP supports two resident members to serve as delegates to the AMA Resident Fellow Section with an option to also serve as an AAFP delegate to the AMA House of Delegates. This additional responsibility requires 2-3 extra days of service at the AMA meeting with additional responsibilities related to the HOD. All travel expenses are reimbursed according to AAFP policy.

The AMA House of Delegates (HOD) annually allocates delegate positions to state and specialty societies based on the number of their members that are also AMA members. The allocation is announced on or before February 1 of each year, and the delegate count is adjusted accordingly. Depending on the delegation size, there will be an opportunity for one MSS representative to also serve as a HOD delegate for the Annual and Interim meetings that year. This additional responsibility will require two or three extra days of service at the AMA HOD meeting. Travel expenses, including per-diem payment, will be provided by the AAFP. If an increase occurs, additional information will be provided by AAFP Medical Education staff.
