If you have not submitted an Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO), Instructor, or Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) course before, then you should watch the ALSO/BLSO Tutorial and review the ALSO/BLSO Application Checklist. View ALSO or BLSO to learn more about sponsoring a course.
The credit requested on the live portion of the ALSO, Instructor, or BLSO course should reflect the amount of time the participants are engaged in the education of the live activity. If the live activity is scheduled to be 8 hours and 15 minutes (excluding breaks and lunch), then the credit requested is 8.25 credits. View more about calculating credit. Note, your credit request should not include the online (enduring) portion of the course.
The AAFP is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Contact hours will only be awarded to all ALSO Courses.
Additionally, AAFP credit is accepted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as well as other health professional organizations. View the full list.
Once an ALSO or BLSO application is submitted, ALSO or BLSO providers can only edit the marketing, location, course coordinator, and course director information. ALSO/BLSO Sponsors can access this information from the application’s Activity Summary page that is accessible through the CME Provider Dashboard.
You do not need to contact the AAFP Credit System regarding your application. If you have questions related to your ALSO or BLSO application, then please contact the AAFP Women's Health Team, which can be reached by phone at (800) 274-2237 ext. 7506 or by email at also@aafp.org.
